In Starstone Insurance SE v. City of Chicago, Illinois, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit held, in an issue of first impression, that a Societas Europaea, an organization registered to do business throughout the European Union under the EU’s European Company statute, is a corporation under 28 U.S.C. §1332(c)(1), for the purposes of establishing diversity jurisdiction for US courts to hear disputes involving such entities.
