Executive Order on Strengthening America's Law Enforcement

On April 28, 2025, the White House issued an executive order seeking to strengthen law enforcement actions in response to criminal activity. The Executive Order instructs the Department of Justice and other federal agencies to, amongst other things, create a federal mechanism for legal representation and indemnification of law enforcement, promote federal support for more aggressive policing policies, and increase the availability of federal assets to aid in those policing objectives, including providing surplus military assets to state and local law enforcement. Additionally, the Executive Order seeks to hold state and local officials accountable for actions viewed as obstructive to law enforcement and utilizes Homeland Security Task Forces to bolster these initiatives.
