A former New Jersey prosecutor, jailed last year on charges that he allegedly practiced law without a license, faces new charges after investigators identified five more victims who alleged that he scammed them out of tens of thousands of dollars.
According to a story in the Asbury Park Press, lawyer David T. Schlendorf, 54, now living in Holladay, Utah, was charged March 24 with four counts of theft by deception and five counts of unauthorized practice of law.
Ocean County prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the charges last week, according to the story. The law enforcement agency that Schlendorf once represented in court against criminal defendants now leads the prosecution against him.
Authorities allege that between January 2023 and September 2025, five victims hired Schlendorf for legal representation, collectively paying about $60,000 for services that he was legally barred from providing, the story says.
