Chief Elvan “Van” McDaniel of the Homer Police Department in Louisiana has been arrested on charges of aggravated battery and malfeasance in office related to the arrest of a reported thief on Monday, according to a press release from the Louisiana State Police. An investigation by the State Police Bureau of Investigations found that Chief McDaniel used excessive force by deploying a taser multiple times on a non-combative subject, who was handcuffed behind his back and lying on the ground. As part of the ongoing investigation, search warrants were also procured and executed at HPD and other locations in connection to this arrest. McDaniel was booked into Claiborne Parish Detention Center. Additional charges and/or arrests are possible.
