Largely, everyone was in the dark. Partners were not coming into the office much over the summer, and when they did, they didn’t want to deal with questions.
— A former Stroock & Stroock & Lavan staffer, in comments given to the American Lawyer on the plight that staffers are currently facing ahead of Stroock’s dissolution. The staffer continued, noting that “they [Stroock partners] would ignore us,” and that while associates received information on the state of the firm, “it was bare minimum” and that the information came “only when pressured.” According to a WARN notice, nearly 140 staffers will face layoffs prior to the New York office’s closure on January 30, 2024.
