The US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reversed and remanded the ruling of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, in Van Loon v. Dept. of the Treasury, finding that the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) exceeded its statutory authority when it sanctioned crypto mixer Tornado Cash for its role in laundering virtual currency for malicious cyber actors and for adding Tornado Cash to its list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons.
