Northern Ireland has enacted new laws around offenses including up-skirting, down-blousing and cyber-flashing, sexual offenses that have become increasingly prevalent in the country, Valerie Martin reports for Northern Ireland World. “Up-skirting” and “down-blousing” relate to the observing or recording of a person’s genitals, buttocks, breasts or underwear without a person’s consent. The new offense of “sending an unwanted sexual image”, also known as “cyber-flashing”, to capture the behavior of those who intentionally send an image of their genitals or sexual activity to another person without that person’s consent. The laws have been further tailored to target those involved in grooming children. Perpetrators could face up to two years in prison and up to 10 years on the Sex Offenders Register.
