BigLaw associate wins ‘Big Brother,’ attributes victory to hiding profession and channeling Elle Woods
The winner of the latest season of the Big Brother reality TV show, revealed Sunday, is a BigLaw associate who said she used her attorney skills to deliver her final winning speech.
But winning contestant Ashley Hollis, an A&O Shearman associate, said in her final speech that she passed herself off as a social media marketing manager as part of her winning strategy. People and Entertainment Weekly have coverage.
“I knew coming into this game, I was going to have to hide my true identity in order to eliminate the target from my back, and I did so,” she said.
Hollis said she followed the lead of 2001 Legally Blonde movie character Elle Woods, who was intelligent, even though people thought that they could emotionally manipulate and control her.
“Not only did you guys think that you were emotionally manipulating me and controlling me, I let you think that,” Hollis said in the speech.
Hollis told Entertainment Weekly that she worked on the speech for days.
“Being an attorney, you have to predict what the other person’s arguments are going to be and already have a strategy and a counterargument to whatever their argument is going be,” she said.
Hollis plans to give “a good chunk” of her $750,000 prize to her parents because they have always supported her dreams and ambitions. She is also thinking about buying a home.
