At the end of its 2024 legislative session, California’s legislature passed amendments to its climate disclosure laws that were enacted in 2023. Among other things, amendments to SB 253 (the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act) and SB 261 (Greenhouse gases: climate-related financial risk) extend the time for CARB to adopt implementing regulations, but they do not delay reporting obligations for companies. The legislature also failed to pass proposed amendments to AB 1305 (the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures Act).
