The Alexandria Police Department in Virginia is conducting an internal investigation after a “display” of “potentially offensive materials” was found in a parked police cruiser belonging to the department, Jonathan Franklin reports for NPR. A video shared widely on Youtube and other social media showed a mock figure in the passenger seat of a cruiser comprised of a cartoon pig head, a black mask, and a shirt that read ‘I Can’t Breathe,’ some of the last words of multiple police brutality victims including George Floyd and Eric Garner, and a rallying cry of anti-police brutality protests since his death in 2020.
“We definitely understand the public’s concerns. We find [the incident] to be troubling,” APD Assistant Chief Easton McDonald told NBC Washington.
