Rudolph “King Rudy” Acosta III, a Chicago-area drug dealer who face a recommended life sentence for “off the charts” levels of drug trafficking in Illinois, was granted a time-served sentence on Tuesday by a federal judge in recognition of his service as what a U.S. Attorney described as “one of the most prolific and successful cooperators with our office” in the last decade, Jon Seidel reports for the Chicago Sun-Times. U.S. Attorney Andrew Erskine told Judge Robert Gettleman that Acosta’s cooperation helped lead to charges against 36 federal defendants; Acosta’s defense attorney Jeffrey Steinback named one: late state Senator Martin Sandoval, who pleaded guilty to corruption charges in 2020 before his death.
