In R (Ayinde) v Haringey LBC [2025] EWHC 1383 (Admin), the Divisional Court highlighted serious concerns about the use of generative AI (GenAI) tools in legal proceedings in the context of two cases referred to it under the Hamid jurisdiction (the court’s inherent jurisdiction to regulate its own procedures and enforce duties owed by lawyers to the court). The issues arose out of the actual or suspected use by lawyers of GenAI tools to produce legal arguments and witness statements which contained false information.
