Indiana State Police have announced the break in a 41-year-old cold case after arresting Ronald Jack Anderson on Halloween for the 1982 murder of Clifford Smith, Ben Brasch reports for the Washington Post. Smith was a 24-year-old former Army private working for the city of Seymour, Indiana when his wife reported him missing on Nov. 4, 1982 and his body was found in December. Sgt. Stephen Wheeles told reporters that investigators used “recent investigative techniques” to develop evidence in the case and link the killing to Anderson. Anderson remained in Jackson County Jail on a murder charge as of Wednesday morning.
