On August 23, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and eight states sued RealPage, Inc., a revenue management software company for landlords, under Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act (United States v. RealPage, Inc., No. 1:24-cv-00710 (M.D.N.C. Aug. 23, 2024)). The complaint alleges that RealPage facilitates anticompetitive information exchanges between landlords and uses the data in pricing algorithms that inflate rents for multifamily housing rentals. The DOJ also alleges that RealPage illegally monopolizes the market for commercial revenue management software.
