Latham to Continue Advising CEOs After Retirement

NEW YORK, NY (November 20, 2023) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. announced that Weldon H. Latham, founder and long-term leader of the firm’s Corporate Diversity Counseling Group, plans to retire from the firm immediately after the new year. Jackson Lewis is pleased to announce, however, that Mr. Latham will continue to be available to advise major corporate CEOs and General Counsel on a selective basis as a consultant on significant diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) matters.

Mr. Latham founded the first-of-its-kind Corporate Diversity Counseling Group at a law firm over 25 years ago; since then, he and the team have advised more than 75 Fortune 200 company CEOs and other C-Suite executives, leaders of key government agencies and other complex organizations, and employers in various industries on the wide range of DEI issues.

Mr. Latham is regarded as a go-to authority in addressing DEI-related crises. DiversityInc magazine dubbed him “the brains behind diversity crisis management.” As the DEI field has evolved, he and his group have conducted numerous, comprehensive company-wide legal vulnerability assessments, including what are now known as Race Equity Audits – all assisting companies to avoid or resolve crises; address employee, external group, and/or stockholder concerns; and implement practical recommendations and best practices to improve unique DEI performance.

Over the years, with Weldon’s guidance, the firm has developed experienced, highly skilled attorneys who support our clients in DEI matters, including Weldon’s original team, John Bryson, Michael Hatcher, and numerous others. That team of attorneys will continue under the leadership of Samia Kirmani and Michael Thomas, the new group co-leaders and experienced DEI advisors, to provide best in class corporate diversity counseling services to Jackson Lewis’ existing and future clients. The group will continue to provide clients with the highest level of service while continuing to benefit from the ability to call on Mr. Latham to leverage his experience. Jackson Lewis will continue to consult with Mr. Latham to utilize his sage DEI advice as the firm continues to strive to be the leading national law firm in DEI matters.

The firm’s Corporate Diversity Counseling team will continue to help Jackson Lewis better service clients given their increased demand for DEI advice and counsel — particularly in the wake of the Supreme Court’s June 29 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard/UNC and other new litigation and event-driven challenges.
