Man will plead guilty to threatening to harm, murder Supreme Court justices

An Alaska man will plead guilty to felony charges that he threatened to assault and murder several U.S. Supreme Court justices, according to Bloomberg Law.
Panos Anastasiou, 77, of Alaska agreed to plead guilty to a threats charge for sending more than 500 messages threatening six justices between 2023 and 2024, according to a filing submitted April 10 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Anastasiou sent hundreds of messages directed at Supreme Court justices and two of their family members. The communications included violent, racist and homophobic rhetoric, as well as “threats of assassination, torture, hanging” and references to firearm use, according to Bloomberg Law.
The court filing indicate thats Anastasiou will also plead guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon because of a prior 1991 conviction.
Federal prosecutors will recommend a probationary sentence and a period of home confinement because of Anastasiou’s advanced age and health issues, including dementia and a history of throat cancer, according to Bloomberg Law.
