Nebraska non-profit ‘Justice in Action’ is pushing for a $1 million increase to the Lancaster prison budget to be used for rehabilitation and diversion programs rather than boarding contracts, Matt Chibe reports for ABC. Nebraska’s prison system remains one of the most overcrowded in the US and boarding contracts would see inmates transferred to jails with greater capacity. Justice in Action argues that boarding inmates moves them even further from crucial support systems and rehabilitation opportunities.
