The number of police officers in Scotland will drop to less than 16,000 by April, according to David Kennedy, general secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, who said that crime is only falling because people are no longer reporting it, Alistair Grant reports for The Scotsman. Kennedy said more and more pressure had been put on the service in recent years and criticized a pilot project in the north east of the country, in which some minor crimes will no longer be investigated, as part of the problem. “We need the police to be going to calls when you phone them up,” said Kennedy. “We need the police officers to attend.” Kennedy said that the highest number of employed officers recorded was in 2013 with just under 17,500,
