Inmates in Texas prisons and jails are taking to TikTok as the statewide shutdown aiming to stop contraband drug trafficking stretches into its third week, Michael Karlis reports for the San Antonio Current. Those incarcerated in state facilities have only been allowed to leave their cells three times weekly to shower, and have been unable to access mess halls.
On social media, inmates claim they have been provided with “Johnny Bags,” which family members argue contain inedible food. Videos on TikTok show prisoners being offered a piece of cornbread shoved into a bag with peanut butter and a hard boiled egg. Administrators have responded by saying that they provide prisoners with three meals a day, including one hot meal. They also denied that clips posted to social media represent food provided to inmates.
