BigLaw campaign contributions largely favor Republicans

Law firm political action committees disbursed about $1 million more to Republican campaigns than Democratic campaigns between January 2025 and March, according to a new Law.com analysis.
In analyzing Federal Election Commission data, Law.com found that 37 of 43 Am Law 200 PACs spent more on Republican campaigns or affiliated organizations. Democratic campaigns and organizations received $3.46 million, while Republican campaigns and organizations received $4.5 million.
McGuire Woods, Cozen O’Connor, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schrek, and Greenberg Traurig are among the firms that made more than $500,000 in political contributions since the start of 2025, Law.com reports. Of McGuire Woods’ total $966,420 contribution, $420,860 went to Democrats and $545,560 went to Republicans.
It isn’t surprising PAC disbursements favor Republicans as that party controls both Congress and the presidency, Law.com notes. The publication also notes that from 2023 to 2024, when Democrat Joe Biden was president, 55% of 110 law firm PAC disbursements went to Democrats.
According to Law.com, some law firms have brought in millions from their legal services and consulting work with national party committees.
The Democratic National Committee paid more than $1.09 million to Perkins Coie and $1.03 million to Elias Law Group between January 2025 and mid-April. The Republican National Committee paid more than $5.01 million to Consovoy McCarthy, $2.54 million to Dhillon Law Group and $1.83 million to Jones Day during that period.
