Jones Day is the latest victim of the Silent Ransom Group, a hacker group that targets law firms.

A firm spokesperson said Monday the firm “experienced a cyber ‘phishing’ incident in which ‌an unauthorized third party accessed a limited number of dated files for 10 clients,” Reuters reports. The spokesperson declined to identify the affected clients but said they had been notified.

The Silent Ransom Group posted the data retrieved from Jones Day online March 30, Reuters reports, citing information from cybercrime research platform eCrime.ch. The FBI said in a notice last year the hacker group has targeted firms since 2023 because of the “highly sensitive nature of legal industry data,” Reuters also reports.

According to Law.com, which has additional coverage of the cyberattack, other major firms have been targeted by the Silent Ransom Group this year. Referring to a list published by data breach tracker Ransomware.live, it reports that Wood Smith Henning & Berman and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe are among recent victims.

“Earlier this year, we acted quickly to stop a limited phishing incident,” a representative from Orrick told Law.com. “A small number of clients were impacted and we have contacted all of them.”

Wood Smith did not respond to Law.com’s request for comment.
